Despite the rapid growth and improving standards at world level, Great Britain has maintained its position as the world’s leading Paracanoe nation since 2012 and is one of only two nations to have qualified for all six events in Rio, along with Australia.

The Paralympic Paracanoe classification of impairments was restructured in February 2015 as a result of a two and one half year study by the ICF, so a key focus of support since has been around understanding the qualities and attributes required for each class and ensuring correct classification of athletes for Rio.

Other key areas of EIS support include competition preparation, working with coaches to ensure athletes training and race day plans are derived from testing and best practice whilst taking account of logistical considerations, helping athletes to manage their training, disability  and life balance and understanding what creates a performance enhancing environment for each priority athlete.
